The nature reserve of Vendicari is one of the most protected places visited in Sicily. Nature and history intertwine along the southeastern coast of Sicily. As you stroll around you come across the ruins of Vendicari ancient past. Due to its strategic position at the center of the Mediterranean, Vendicari was one of the most important commercial ports, famous for its salt marshes, stands alone between land and sea. La Tonnara used the nearby marshes, which for many years were used as Saline to get the salt necessary to store fish. One of the big Pantano (salt worker house) is still there to witness a time already gone.
